Egypt's readymade garment and apparel exports increased by 38% from January to the end of November 2021, according to the Head of Readymade Garments Export Council of Egypt (RMGEC) Marie Louise.
Exports amounted to $1.7bn, compared to $1.3bn in the same period of 2020.
Louise added that the United States of America topped the countries importing from Egypt in the first 11 months of 2021, with a value of $1.04bn in 11 months of 2021, compared to $726m in the same period of 2020, an increase of 44%. Additionally, exports to Europe increased by 3% to record $320m in 11 months of 2021, compared to $310m in the same period last year, furthermore, exports to Arab countries increased by 128% to $235m, compared to $83m.
Louise explained that T-shirt and polo shirt exports jumped by 34% during the first 11 months, to record $455m, compared to $339m, followed by sportswear, which increased by 102% to $24m, compared to $12m. Trousers exports also increased by 179% to $49m, compared to $18m.
She noted that the export jump came with the Council's continued efforts in various events, as well as direct communication with the state agencies concerned with the export file to overcome all obstacles facing readymade garment exports.
The Egyptian state has a clear keenness in making decisions to support investors based on labour-intensive industrial projects in the readymade garment sector, she concluded.
