Egypt, Israel leaders discuss recovering peace talks with Palestine
Published in Daily News Egypt on 28 - 06 - 2021

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a telephone conversation, on Monday, with the newly appointed Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, after the latter assumed his duties.
Bassam Rady, Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, said that, during the call, Al-Sisi asserted Egypt's full support for all ongoing endeavours to reach a comprehensive solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict. This is with a view to achieving peace in the Middle East.
Al-Sisi also affirmed the importance of preventing any escalation between the Palestinians and Israelis, as well as the importance of supporting Egyptian efforts for reconstruction in the Palestinian territories.
During the call, Bennett expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts to achieve security and stability in the region, including its recent successes in reaching a ceasefire agreement between the two sides. He had also applauded the Egyptian sponsorship of prisoner exchange negotiations.
Bennett was officially named Israel's new prime minister on 13 June, with his government unlike any government that has held power in the country.
His government, approved by a razor-thin majority of 60-59, is made up of an unprecedented coalition of parties, including Arabs. Bennett will hold the Prime Minister position until September 2023, as part of a power-sharing deal with Yair Lapid, leader of the centrist Yesh Atid, who will then replace him.
