The Egyptian Commercial Service in Uganda has organised a visit for a delegation from the Egyptian Food Industries Export Council to the Ugandan capital, Kampala, to follow up on the arrangements for holding the first Egyptian exhibition for food products in the East African country.
The exhibition is scheduled for the first week of June. It will be launched in coordination with the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry within the framework of the Ministry of Trade and Industry's efforts to promote Egyptian food exports in African markets.
Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service in Uganda, Ahmed Maghawry, said, in a statement issued by the Trade Ministry on Thursday, that the exhibition comes within the framework of the ministry's plan to double Egyptian exports to the African countries by organising a series of events and visits to enhance economic and trade cooperation with these target markets.
He added that the Egyptian business community is currently keen to support bilateral trade relations between Egypt and Uganda on the basis of achieving mutual benefit. He noted that some production requirements for Egyptian factories are being imported from Uganda, which gives a positive message to the Ugandan side of the Egyptian business community's desire to support cooperation.
The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Uganda amounted to about $110m in 2020, of which about $101m worth Egyptian exports. Food products accounted for about $18.1m of Egyptian exports to Uganda in 2020, compared to about $15.6m in 2019, achieving an increase of 16%.
