Value of deposited amounts in postal savings funds reaches EGP 100.6bn in FY 2015/2016: CAPMAS

The value of deposited amounts in postal savings funds reached EGP 100.6bn in the fiscal year (FY) 2015/2016, according to a report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
This is compared to EGP 88.3bn in FY 2014/2015. The increase of 14% is said to be due to confidence in post offices throughout the country.
The report was issued in a press release on Saturday for World Post Day, celebrated on 9 October, commemorating the date of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874.
The value of deposited amounts with postal cheques also increased by 14.7%, reaching EGP 56.8bn in FY 2015/2016 compared to EGP 49.5bn in FY 2014/2015,
The value of pensions disbursed by postal offices reached EGP 55.7bn in FY 2015/2016, compared to EGP 49.2bn in FY 2014/2015, an increase of 13.1%.
The number of pensions disbursed by postal offices increased by 6.4%, reaching 65.1m in FY 2015/2016 compared to 61.2m pensions in FY 2014/2015.
Stamps sold by postal units earned an amount worth EGP 250.8m in FY 2015/2016, compared to EGP 274.1m in FY 2014/2015, a decrease of 8.5%.
The number of postal units in FY 2015/2016 reached 3,927, a moderate increase of 0.4% when compared to only 3,911 units in FY 2014/2015.
The amount of mail circulated through government postal units reached 101.1 million in FY 2015/2016 compared to 87.1 million in FY 2014/2015, marking an increase of 16.1%.

Electronic payment units witnessed a 4.8% increase in FY 2015/2016, reaching 2,144 units compared to 2,046 units in FY 2014/2015. The electronic payment unit is an automated system that enables postal unites to conduct financial transactions and balance inquiries electronically.
