Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry is visiting Jordan, Kuwait and Saudi-Arabia to discuss the deteriorating regional situation, according to a Wednesday statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Shoukry met Tuesday with Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Nasur and his counterpart Nasser Gouda in Amman. During the meeting, they discussed the escalating situation in Palestine and stopping the "Israeli aggression" on the Palestinian territories, the statement said.
According to a foreign ministry spokesperson, Shoukry brought up the situation in Iraq and Syria and the impact of Islamic State's take-over of large areas in north-west Iraq and north-east Syria.
Shoukry and Gouda agreed on the importance of taking action to support Iraqi unity to enable them to confront terrorism and extremism.
Egypt's foreign minister flew to Kuwait on Wednesday where he is scheduled to meet the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to deliver a verbal message from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. He is planned to meet with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to discuss the developments in Iraq.
Shoukry is scheduled to visit Jeddah to attend the executive committee meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). In the meeting, the Palestinian situation will be discussed, especially questions surrounding East Jerusalem.
