Mansour meets top officials ahead of Kuwait visit
Published in Daily News Egypt on 28 - 10 - 2013

Interim President Adly Mansour met separately on Sunday with Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy and General Mohab Mamish.
The interim president is also scheduled to meet with interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi, interim Defence Minister General Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi and interim Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim on Monday, state-run MENA reported.
Mansour and Fahmy discussed Fahmy's short trip to Saudi Arabia on Saturday as well as the most recent international developments. Fahmy had accompanied El-Beblawi in his three-day trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) before making a short stop in Saudi Arabia where he met with his Saudi counterpart.
El-Beblawi and Mansour are expected to discuss the UAE trip in detail during their meeting.
Mansour and Mamish discussed ship activity and security procedures in the Suez Canal. Mansour and the president of the Suez Canal Authority also discussed the authority's preparations to be the "official umbrella" of the national project to develop the Suez Canal region, state-run television reported.
Mamish had met with Al-Sisi last week and the two also discussed the Suez Canal Region Development Project. The project was first proposed during the term of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. It included plans for developing the cities overlooking the Suez Canal, Suez, Ismailia and Port Said.
During Mansour's talks with Mamish, the latter presented his ideas about the project and said the project will offer employment opportunities for youth from cities overlooking the canal and from the Sinai Peninsula. Mansour stressed the importance of maintaining transparency throughout the project, describing it as "a project owned by the Egyptian people."
Mamish discussed the escalation of militancy last week with Second Army Commander Major General Ahmed Wasfi and Commander of the Third Army General Osama Askar. Bombings, which Jihadist group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis claimed responsibility for, had occurred in the Military Intelligence building and an administrative building in the Canal Authority Facility in Ismailia.
Mansour is scheduled to head a delegation to Kuwait on Wednesday. This is going to be Mansour's second trip overseas. In his first trip, he visited Saudi Arabia, followed by Jordan.
