CAIRO: Emirates Airlines increased its flights to Cairo to 13 per week after witnessing a continuous growth in passenger and cargo demand from Egypt to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Since March 30, the additional flight EK928 has been leaving Cairo every Friday morning. There will also be a return flight the same day, according to a statement released by the company. “This is the second additional frequency we have introduced on Emirates' Cairo-Dubai route in less than a year, underlining the resurgence of tourism as well as business travel to the city,” Saeed Khalifa Bin Sulaiman, Emirates manager in Egypt, said in the statement. Since the 18-day uprising battered Egypt's economy in January 2011, the airline had seen a decline in the number of flights to Cairo. However, after approving the boost at the end of March, the company fully restored its services to Egypt. The additional flights will allow travelers in Egypt more choices to the UAE. It will connect both business and leisure travelers to Dubai, as well as Emirates Airlines' extensive global network, which includes 120 destinations in 72 countries, according to Bin Sulaiman. “There is significant demand for travel in and out of Egypt from across our network and we are confident that the extra frequency will be popular with our customers,” he said. Emirates currently has a fleet of 169 aircrafts. The carrier, which has been operating since 1985, has orders for an additional 236 aircrafts worth more than $84 billion.
