CAIRO: Siemens Energy announced on Tuesday that it would supply some 44 turbines for Morocco's wind energy projects at Haouma and Foum el-Oued. The company said in a press release that it signed a deal with Nareva Holding for the projects. According to Siemens, it will be responsible for all aspects of the project, from delivery to installation and commissioning of the turbines. The deal also has a five-year service contract for each project. Morocco hopes to boost its wind energy capacity by the end of the decade and believes it can lead the world on renewable energy. Wind and solar power are becoming instrumental parts of the government's energy platform. The Haouma wind farm will be built in northern Morocco and will feature 22 units of Siemens SWT-2.3-93 turbine, Energy Business Review reported. The report added that the Foum El Oued wind farm will be built in the municipality of Laayoune in southern Morocco and will include 22 units of SWT-2.3-101 turbine. “The two wind power plants with a combined capacity of 100MW are expected to commence commercial operation in 2013,” the report stated. According to Siemens, the Moroccan government has “set the target of raising the contribution of renewable energy to 20 percent of national electricity consumption by 2020.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Pkqv3 Tags: Energy, Siemens, Wind Power Section: Environment, Going Green, Latest News, Morocco
