The United States Department of Agriculture on Monday announced that it would recall more than 10,000 pounds of Lean Cuisine frozen spaghetti and meatball items after it discovered the presence of “foreign materials.” It is the latest recall in the US. Last year, hundreds of thousands of eggs were recalled after they were found to be contaminated. According to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the health risk associated with the recall is “low.” They said that if the products are consumed, there is little chance of health consequences, but are recalling the products to ensure complete safety. Nestle Prepared Foods received complaints from consumers in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, that consumers had found hard plastic in the frozen meals, the FSIS said. The products were sold east of the Rocky Mountains in 9.5 ounce units entitled “Lean Cuisine Simple Favorites, Spaghetti with Meatballs” and have the establishment number “EST 7991.” They bear a November 2011 “best before” date on the side of the package.
