CAIRO: Toshiba is looking to build a factory for a new LCD TV plant in Egypt as it continues its push into the Middle East and Africa, Toshiba said in a press statement on Monday. The company is in talks with electronics maker El-Araby to construct the new facility. The Japanese national broadcaster NHK cited people familiar with the matter earlier Monday as saying Toshiba had reached an agreement to launch a joint venture with Egypt-based El Araby. Toshiba said it would invest some 5 billion yen through the joint venture to build a new LCD TV-making facility at El Araby's existing plant in Egypt, NHK reported. With annual production targeted at nearly 1 million units, including 24-inch, 32-inch LCD TVs, the new facilities are scheduled to go live as early as March 2011, NHK reported. Toshiba officials declined to comment further on the development. BM
