Iran To Continue Supporting Syrian Nation, Government
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 10 - 09 - 2012

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran will continue its support for the Syrian nation and the reforms implemented by the country's President Bashar al-Assad.
“Iran's support for the Syrian people and Bashar al-Assad's reforms within the context of the resistance front will continue," Amir-Abdollahian said in a meeting with China's Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun on Sunday.
Amir-Abdollahian said the current situation in Syria has discouraged the Arab country's enemies from continuing their policies, adding, “The victory of the Syrian nation has become evident."
The Iranian official hailed China's policies with regard to Syria, stressing the importance of Tehran and Beijing's common stance in supporting Damascus.
“Syria has taken strong steps in the path of fighting terrorism," Amir-Abdollahian added.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Damascus says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are behind the unrest while the opposition accuses the security forces of killing protesters.
Zhang, for his part, praised Iran's efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis diplomatically, saying “certain countries" were planning to prolong their presence in the region.
The recent developments occurring in the region and democratic governments taking office were not in the interest of these countries, the Chinese official said.
