Egypt's food exports surge by 260k tons in a week – NFSA

Egypt's food exports recorded a remarkable activity during the period from March 30 until April 5, the Egyptian Cabinet said on Sunday, citing the National Food Safety Authority's (NFSA) 14th weekly report for 2024.
According to the report, a total of 5,051 food consignments, weighing approximately 260,000 tons, were exported by 1,520 firms. These consignments varied between 662 types of fresh fruits and vegetables, and other food products.
On the top of the exported vegetables list during the last week was the Egyptian potatoes of 40,000 tons, followed by various frozen vegetables of 10,000 tons, and olives of 5,000 tons. There was a total of 63 types of vegetables exported, weighing approximately 60,000 tons, the reported added.
As for the fresh fruits, citrus led the list during last week, weighing a total of 70,000 tons, followed by strawberries of 15,000 tons, and various other fruits of 3,000 tons. There was a total of 47 types of fruits exported, weighing approximately 88,000 tons.
According to the report, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Spain, were the largest recipients of Egyptian food exports during the last week, among a total of 166 importing countries.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,923 food consignments weighing approximately 443,000 tons were imported to Egypt by 690 companies. These consignments involved 146 types of wheat, various oils, and soybeans from 80 countries. Russia was the largest exporter to Egypt, followed by Ukraine, Australia, Indonesia, and the United States.
