Egypt is planning to boost its exports of plastics by 15 per cent for the current year, said Khaled Abo El Makarim, chairman of the Egyptian Chemical and Fertilizers Export Council (CEC), on Tuesday. Abo El Makarim made these remarks on the sidelines of the PLASTEX 2024, the largest plastics and rubber exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa, taking place in Cairo on January 9-12. "Part of PLASTEX 2024 Exhibition this year is to serve this target, to boost our exports of plastics by at least 12 per cent and 15 per cent, by working to tap new markets, including Europe." Abo El Makarim said. Egypt's exports of plastic products have amounted to $1.75 billion in 2023, representing 27 per cent of its chemical and fertilisers sector exports, the CEC said in a report at the opening of PLASTEX 2024.
