After meeting with Wafd Party leaders, presidential hopeful Amr Moussa said Wednesday he is considering running as the party's candidate.
Moussa is planning to make a decision during a later meeting with party heads, but did not specify when that would be.
State television's website quoted Moussa as saying that he will follow through with the electoral contest until the end.
Moussa, who is still working on an electoral platform, expressed confidence in Egyptians' support for him.
He also emphasized that he is still an independent candidate, noting popular desire that the new president be independent.
Wafd Party chief Sayyed al-Badawy called for unity among national forces surrounding the next president.
“It's preferable that the next president be elected by consensus,” he said.
He also said that his meeting with Moussa tackled various political and economic issues on the local and international levels.
