President Mohamed Morsy will call parliamentary elections to start in April, a presidential source told Reuters Thursday, adding that the vote would be held in three or four stages. "The president will issue a decree soon. It could be tonight, calling for elections to start in April," the source told Reuters. The Shura Council approved Thursday the Supreme Constitutional Court's recommended amendments to the elections law. The court had deemed five articles unconstitutional. The Shura Council, the upper house of Parliament, holds legislative powers until the new House of Representatives is elected. A court ruling dissolved the People's Assembly, which the new Constitution renamed the House of Representatives, last year. Local media had previously reported that Morsy would call for holding the elections in May.
