Cairo - The Egyptian Cabinet on Tuesday discussed arrangements taken to mark the global 'Earth Hour' Saturday In recognition of Earth Hour, all Egyptian tourist attractions, including the Pyramids, Cairo Tower, and Citadel of Qaitbay will be shutting off all their lights for 60 minutes starting 20:30 CLT, Environment Minister Khalid Fahmy said in a press conference. A celebration will be also staged at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo's district of Fustat. Egypt marks "Earth Hour" every year since 2009, as part of a global initiative started by the World Wildlife Fund to highlight the importance of energy conservation efforts. The event is held worldwide and on March 29 annually, encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol for their commitment to the planet. This aims at developing the awareness of the institutions and individuals of the importance of rationalizing energy to limit the global warming and climate change phenomenon.
