Cairo - Egyptian news agency MENA announced Tuesday night that Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj and Libyan General Khalifa Haftar, in indirect meetings in Cairo, "have agreed to hold parliamentary and presidential elections" in Libya "in February 2018, in line with the Libyan political accord" signed in Shikrat in December 2015. However, the Libya Herald online cited sources "in Haftar's camp" that maintain the general didn't accept the proposal. MENA, in its Arab-language service, cited "a statement released at the conclusion of meetings held with Fayez Sarraj, president of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh, and General Khalifa Haftar". On Tuesday an official source in Tobruk, where Haftar is based, said that the general had refused to meet with Sarraj. ANSA sources at the Cairo airport as well as the Libya Herald said that Sarraj has left Cairo. MENA also said that the leaders agreed to "form a joint committee of the Libyan Parliament and the High Council of State to examine issues agreed upon for amendment in the political accord" signed in Morocco in 2015 and also "to reach a consensus on a draft to send to parliament for approval". "The Libyan Parliament will make the necessary amendments to include the Shikrat political accord in the constitutional declaration. The accord also affirms that all holders of the main offices in Libya will continue their work".
