Cairo, alBawaba - Egypt's Parliament Member 'Abdul Rahim Ali' denounced the meeting called for by ambassadors of European Union countries in Cairo on Wednesday to take a stand against the new NGOs law. The founder and chairman of al-Bawaba News Portal described this meeting of as "suspicious" and a "blatant interference" in Egypt affairs. Declaring his, as well as all his fellow members of parliament, refusal for this sort of unacceptable actions. Egypt's parliament overwhelmingly endorsed a law regulating non-governmental organizations on Tuesday that human rights groups and activists say effectively bans their work and makes it harder for charities to operate. The bill restricts NGO activity to developmental and social work and introduces jail terms of up to five years for non- compliance. Ali asked Egyptian parties to boycott this meeting, saying "everyone involved in this suspicious meeting, will put himself in the black list of traitors to Egypt" , He added that "Egyptian national interest should take precedence over any special interests", demanding harsh penalties "with an iron fist" against "those who try to tarnish the image of Egypt".
