Egypt's army foiled earlier on Wednesday a terror attack on a police checkpoint in the Sinai Peninsula, security sources said. 10 militants on their motorbikes opened fire at police personnel in clashes that lasted for two hours leaving some militants killed, the sources added. The Wilayat Sinai, affiliated to the Islamic State group, was planning to spoil the Sinai Liberation Day celebrations with a series of terror attacks, the sources revealed. Since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, a string of deadly bombing have targeted police and military personnel nationwide, mostly in Sinai, leaving hundreds dead.
