Unknown assailants opened fire Sunday, on Khat Al-Bahr police checkpoint in Faqous center, Al-Sharqia governorate, leaving three dead and injuring four others, Veto News reported. Security forces have moved quickly to the crime scene in order to set up a security cordon and secure the area, as well as gather evidence to aid them in search for suspects. A security source who spoke to Veto on condition of anonymity, said that the injured were rushed into Faqous central hospital, after being shot by four unidentified gunmen who escaped on their two motorcycles. The source revealed that two conscripts were killed, in addition to a farmer who was passing by the police checkpoint at the time of the shooting. The gunmen had thrown a hand grenade inside a shop near the checkpoint to stop citizens from helping the policemen who were shot by the assailants, the source pointed out. Police managed to detain three of the assailants while they were on a road leading to Abu Kber center, in an attempt to flee Faqous. Police found a fire arm within their possession, according to the source.
