Government failed to hand protest law to parliament for review, explaining the law was issued before adoption of current constitution, thus it should not be included in review of laws by parliament, Al Bawaba News reported Friday. A decision by minister of Legal Affairs and House of Representatives, Magdy El Agaty revealed that 21 laws, including the controversial protest law will not be presented to parliament for review. El Agaty pointed out that the reason for this is that these laws were issued before the vote on the current constitution, which prompted some parliamentarians to announce intentions of introducing a new protest law soon, in order to abolish the current protest law. These parliamentarians stressed that the new protest law would put into consideration the recommendations of the National Human Rights Council and address the constitutional flaws found within the current protest law.
