The next meeting of Egyptian National Committee of the Grand Ethiopian Dam (TNC), scheduled late October in Cairo, is expected to witness a significant progress in the dam crisis talks, Egypt's minister of irrigation and water resources, Hossam Moghazi said Wednesday. Moghazi affirmed, in a statement to Al-Bawaba News, that the tripartite meeting, including Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, will resume discussing recent differences between the countries over the building of the dam following the return of the Dutch consultancy firm to continue its work along with the other French firm. The Ethiopian side has asserted frequently that the dam would not affect Egypt's share of Nile water, but Egypt is concerned about the negative impacts of the dam on its annual Nile water share. Egypt, with a share of 55 billion cubic metres, is currently suffering from a water deficit of 20 billion cubic metres, which it compensates through water recycling, a stopgap that is not viable in the long run.
