Egyptian army killed 70 terrorists in Sinai in the last week, military spokesman Mohamed Samir announced in a statement Sunday. Samir said that the Egyptian air forces have launched several raids targeting militants' posts in North Sinai's cities of Arish and Sheikh Zuweid, adding that 118 suspects were arrested during a number of military ground operations including two Palestinian nationals. He asserted that the army destroyed 27 terrorist outposts, 35 vehicles, 73 motorcycles without license plates, and a fuel store belonging to the terrorists. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against the Sinai-based Wilayat Sinai terrorist group, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it had claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel. The last terrorist attack was held in Al Arish, and left dozens killed and hundreds injured, on January 29.
