Egyptian security forces arrested 24 suspects accused of forming four different terror cells to target public and private property as well as security posts, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior Wednesday. The ministry's spokesperson, Hany Abdelatif, stated that security forces had confiscated a number of improvised explosive devices and materials which were in the suspects' possession and reportedly used to manufacture homemade bombs. Abdelatif pointed out that this operation was launched in the framework of a wider security campaign, in cooperation with three main security agencies, the National, General and Central Securities in Cairo and three other cities. The campaign aims at capturing terrorist organizations specialized in bomb manufacturing and planting. The arrests came in the wake of the Cairo Supreme Court bomb blast Monday, which claimed the lives of two civilians. At least seven people were injured including policemen and civilians, according to the Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar. The Egyptian authorities have been facing a growing militant insurgency that has specifically targeted security forces mostly in Cairo and the Sinai Peninsula, since the ousting of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
