Egyptian security forces found the body of kidnapped police captain Ayman al Desoky Tuesday in the village of al Mahdeya, near the city of Rafah in north Sinai, according to the spokesperson of the armed forces, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Samir. Desoky, who was kidnapped Sunday in the Wefaq district of Rafah, was found Tuesday morning shot in the back of the head in al Mahdeya, according to Brig. Gen. Samir's official Facebook page. He added that during the search operations to find al Desoky, security forces had killed ten suspected militants and seized weapons and ammunition used to target security personnel. Samir added that efforts to find al Desoky's killers are ongoing. On January 11, unidentified persons kidnapped al Desoky, an officer of the Port Security Forces as he traveled to his service location in Rafah. Later, Ansar Bayt al Maqdis, which in November pledged allegiance to ISIS, claimed responsibility for the abduction. Ansar Bait Al Maqdis has conducted the majority of attacks against the Egyptian police and armed forces in Sinai since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
