Al Sisi's most important decisions in 2014

In 2014, President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi undertook a number of important legislative, political and economic reforms in the country. Al-Bawaba English lists the most decisive ones:
1- Founding the Higher Committee for Legislative Reform
The first decision issued by the President on June 16th, was the establishment of the Supreme Committee for Legislative Reform, headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab.
2- Donating half his salary to Egypt
The President donated half his salary and half his family inheritance to Egypt.
3- Appointing University Presidents and Faculty Deans
The decision covers the appointment of university presidents for a four-year term, by presidential decree, with the possibility of early dismissal by the President.
4- Maximum Wage Law
The law states that employees of the government, local administration units, public bodies, national and economic services and public figures can earn no more than EGP 42 thousand a month.
5- Creation of the new Suez Canal
This is one of the most important decisions taken by President Al Sisi, the Canal is due to be opened in the summer of 2015.
6- Issuing of the Suez Canal Development Project Investment Certificates, to be bought by Egyptians
The issuance of Suez Canal Investment Certificates is a major decision that was welcomed by all Egyptians on August 14th.
7- Railway Development
The President approved the development of the signals network of the Benha, Zagazig, Ismailia and Port Said railway line, in cooperation with Kuwait, that will contribute 30 million Kuwaiti dinars.
8- Approval of Egypt's accession to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention
The aim of this Convention is to prevent and combat corruption with a view to eradicating it, to strengthen Arab cooperation in this regard, to initiate recovery and to enhance integrity, transparency, accountability and the rule of law.
9- Increasing Teachers' Salaries
On August 22nd, the President issued a decision to increase the salaries of workers in the education sector, allowing a teacher to receive a salary of between 1360 and 2160 Egyptian Pounds.
10- Creating a Zakat and Charity House
On September 10th, the President issued a decree for the establishment of a Zakat and Charity House, under the supervision of Al-Azhar.
11- Creating a New Rafah Area Substitute Buffer Zone
The President issued a decision to create a new Rafah area substitute for the buffer zone.
12- Issuing a Decree Establishing the "Tahya Masr" Fund
This fund will be used for various projects such as replacing the slum areas, resolving the phenomenon of street children and displaced persons, and financing micro enterprises, infrastructure projects, small projects for young people, and other projects that will enhance the economic and social status of the country.
13- The Appointment of a new Intelligence Chief
Khaled Fawzy was sworn into office on December 21st as the 20th chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS), to succeed the retired chief, Mohamed Farid El-Tohamy.
14- The Issuing of the Electoral Districts Law
The law will be implemented during the forthcoming parliamentary elections, especially during the House of Representatives' elections.
