Ukrainian President, Pietro Brocenko said in a statement quoted by news agency "Tass", on Saturday that his country will not recover its former status "as a state with nuclear weapons." Brocenko added that his country has abandoned its nuclear weapons voluntarily, in exchange for security guarantees from other countries. Ukraine and Russia have reached a 1994 deal that required Ukraine's abandon of its arsenal of nuclear weapons, and deliver them to Moscow in exchange for exiting from the Soviet Union and managing its affairs freely.
