The International Football Federation (FIFA) and France Football Magazine announced the final list of candidates for the best player in the world, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Manuel Neuer. Cristiano Ronaldo is considered to be the strongest candidate to win the prize, after delivering a fantastic season with Real Madrid, as he helped them to be crowned the Champions League winners and the Spanish Cup winners. He also was the top scorer in the Champions League and the top scorer in the Spanish league, as well as the joint top scorer in Europe, along with Luis Suarez. As Manuel Neuer is the second candidate, due to his brilliance during the last season with Bayern Munich, who helped them to be crowned league winners, as well as winning with his national football team the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, as he shined strongly for his national side, especially in the final against Argentina and saved more than one goal. On the other hand, Lionel Messi is the least likely to win the award for the fifth time in his career, as he performed badly with Barcelona, which has not been able to reap any title, whether on a personal level or on a collective level and he came out empty-handed without any championship or title.
