Young Egyptian weightlifters triumphed at the 2018 World Juniors Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Leading the champions was none other than Egyptian 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Sara Samir who won all gold in the women's 69kg bodyweight category.
The 20-year-old Samir won the junior world champion again after a first success in 2015. Three years ago, she won with 232kg, while this time she lifted 238kg. The best of her career is 255kg total at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. Samir also won the gold medal of the same weight category at the 2018 Mediterranean Games held last month in Tarragona, Spain.
After starting at 100kg, the Egyptian went up to 105kg. Even after failing on her attempt at 107kg, she secured a 5kg advantage over her rival, Vibert Katherine Elizabeth (USA). The bronze medal in the snatch went to Escobar Aguirre Hellen Andrea (COL).
The ranking didn't change during the clean and jerk, Andrea reached 124kg, while Elizabeth, having three good lifts and a 1kg advantage, became the silver medallist. Samir's clean and jerk of 133kg won the competition, lifting 13kg more than Elizabeth.
Teammate Israa Al-Sayed also won gold in the snatch and two silver medals in the jerk and the total of the -63kg weight category.
