Egypt hit by second explosion targeting police station Security source says explosive body goes off at police station in Mansoura injuring at least 14, following bomb explosion in Ismailia last Saturday
An explosive body went off late Tuesday at a police station near the security directorate headquarters in Mansoura, Egypt's Nile Delta governorate of Daqahlia , injuring at least 14 policemen. A security source told Ahram Online that the explosion was "likely" to have been caused by a bombthrown at the police station. According to a medical source in Mansoura, most of those who were injured are policemen. No deaths have been reported so far as some of the injured have been hospitalized. This is the second explosion to take place near to a police station in Egypt in less than a week. Last Saturday, a bomb exploded in the parking area of Abu Soweir police station in Ismailia , destroying three police vehicles and injuring no one. Also last week, the ministry announced it had detected and defused a bomb planted below Gamaa Bridge in near the Cairo University. Since the ouster of former elected president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July, Egypt has continued to see rival protests as Morsi's supporters have been demanding his reinstatement and their opponents pushing in the opposite direction. Amid recurrent clashes between supporters and proponents of Morsi, there has been rife concerns that some of Morsi's Islamist supporters would escalate violence. Under long-standing repression during Hosni Mubarak's era, several Islamist groups were found guilty of acts of terrorism during the 1980s and 90s, includingthe ultra-conservative Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya which has been a staunch support of Morsi. The Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which Morsi hails, has repeatedly said it would never resort to violence and would continue to peacefully call for the president's reinstatement. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/77213.aspx
