Lawyers of policemen accused in relation to the Port Said massacre abstained from defending their clients in court Saturday. The ongoing trial as a result was adjourned. The lawyers' decision comes in the wake of clashes between attorneys and policemen Friday in Cairo that spurred in a sit-in that continued Saturday.
The head of the Lawyers' Syndicate, Sameh Ashour, announced Friday that no policeman would be given legal representation in any trial until those accused of instigating the events in Nasr City that left a number of lawyers injured are prosecuted.
Friday dawn witnessed heated clashes between lawyers and policemen at Nasr City's First Police Station, leaving eight lawyers and eight from among the police injured.
A number of security officials are facing trial, accused of being responsible for the 1 February bloody events in Port Said that left 74 football fans dead and hundreds injured.
