Egypt FA willing to sacrifice CAN for World Cup qualification
Coach Bob Bradley's job is safe despite loss in CAN qualifiers because World Cup qualification is Egypt's priority, says EFA spokesperson
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 06 - 2012

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has no intention of sacking coach Bob Bradley after Friday's 3-2 home loss to the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2013 African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers, according to EFA spokesperson Azmy Megahed.
“This is all gossip. We are sticking with Bradley and the team still has a chance to qualify [for the CAN],” Megahed told Egyptian TV.
Egypt, winner of seven CAN trophies, must beat CAR by two goals in the second leg in Bangui on 30 June to progress.
Bradley, 54, announced Monday that he would accept the EFA's decision to sack him because he was “the only person responsible for the defeat.”
“Bradley is doing a good job with the Pharaohs in their bid to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, so we must back him as the World Cup is more important than the CAN,” Megahed added.
The former United States coach inspired Egypt to two victories in World Cup qualifiers this month, beating Mozambique 2-0 at home and Guinea 3-2 away.
Egypt's last appearance in the global tournament was in 1990.
