'What a player, what a professional, what a person': Liverpool boss Klopp about Salah
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 09 - 2021

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp hailed his team's star winger Mohamed Salah after reaching the 100-goals milestone in the English Premier League, insisting that more is yet to come from the Egyptian international.

The 29-year-old Salah scored the opener during Sunday's 3-0 win over Leeds to become the 30th player in the league's history to reach the milestone in his 162 appearances.

"A player who epitomises our insatiable appetite to achieve more recorded an incredible milestone at Elland Road last week. Mo Salah scored his 100th Premier League goal that afternoon," klopp was quoted as saying on Liverpool's official website on Saturday morning, just a few hours ahead of the league game against Crystal Palace.

"Because of what happened with Harvey [Elliott] we weren't really in the celebration mood immediately after. But we needed to recognise this remarkable feat as a collective.

"The next day at the training ground we all came together to congratulate him. What a player, what a professional, what a person," the coach added about Salah who also scored a goal in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Milan in the Champions League.

Salah, who scored two goals during a short stint with Chelsea in the 2013-14 season, has scored 98 goals so far with Liverpool, which he joined in 2017 from Italy's AS Roma.

He won the Premier League Golden Boot award in two consecutive seasons, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019.

"We appreciate him so much you cannot believe it. I remember on the final day of last season, when he just missed out on the Golden Boot, our dressing room was so gutted for him because of all he'd done for us during a really tough season to keep us in the race," explained klopp.

"He really is an inspirational figure and as a club we have benefited so much from his hunger for goals. And that's not to forget all his assists.

"I don't understand cricket at all. I really don't. But I believe '100 not out' is a phrase that is connected to that sport? That's Mo… 100 on the board but more to come," the coach concluded.

Salah, whose contract with Liverpool runs out till the summer of 2023, played an instrumental role in guiding the Reds to win the Champions League and Premier League titles in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons, respectively.
