Squash: Egyptian Darwish reaches Hong Kong Open semifinal, Shabana bows out
Karim Darwish is the only Egyptian left in the Hong Kong Open men's competition following the surprise exit of compatriot Amr Shabana
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 11 - 2011

Egypt's world number two Karim Darwish qualified for the Hong Kong Open semifinal on Friday after strolling to a 3-0 win over Australia's Stewart Boswell.
Darwish went through smoothly after beating Boswell 11/5, 11/4 and 11/6.
His compatriot Amr Shabana did not enjoy a similar outcome after slumping to a surprise 3-0 defeat by Malaysia's Azlan Iskandar.
Iskandar beat Shabana, ranked fourth in the world, 11/9, 11/5 and 11/6 in 40 minutes to set up a semifinal showdown with Darwish.
“I don't think Shabana was at his best today, but I'll take it! I got a lot back there, and I counterattacked with interest…Oh well, I live to fight another day…” Iskandar said on Squash Site.
“A semifinal, well! It's been a long time since my last one, it was Petrosport against Karim. My first semi in HK. A good day for Asia, 1 Hong Kong, 3 Malaysians…”
World number one Nick Matthew of England faces his compatriot James Willstrop in the other semifinal.
In the women's contest, Egyptian Raneem El-Weleily reached the semifinal with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Joey Chan of Hong Kong.
